Excursions:

• Corcovado Mountain - a mountain with a sheer granite face topped by the Cristo Redentor (Christ the Redeemer) statue rising more than 100 ft from a 20 ft pedestal - you reach the top on an 1885 cogwheet train or on a winding road with fantastic views of the coast on the way!
• Sugarloaf Mountain is equally impressive - a huge granite slab at the entrance of the Guanabara Bay 1295ft high and from the top you can see spectacular views of the whole city, coastline and the Atlantic (the sunsets seen from the top are fabulous!). You can catch a cableway to get to the top.
• Amazonia National Park covers almost 40 percent of Brazil's total landmass
• Carnival Rio is held in February and March each year - a famous and elaborate carnival with dancing, music and festivities through the streets!
