Phantom of the Opera Workshop (90 mins) - This workshop prides the unique opportunity to examine both the secrets of the PHANTOM and the mysteries of a living theatre. Students explore different ways of working with body language to create character, performing with masks and portraying larger-than-life emotions through the show-stopping song, Masquerade. Participants will also have a hands-on insight into the beloved Gaston Leroux text through the use of actual costumes and props from past productions. The session concludes with a Q&A with one of the PHANTOM cast members. |
| Wicked Workshop (90 mins) - A perfect introduction for non-drama students and students alike to everything that is Oz... and beyond. Participants will learn the literary and political history of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Wicked, and examine how point-of-view in storytelling affects the audience. Subject to availability, a cast member will complete the workshop with a Q&A session. | |

Les Miserables Workshop (60mins) - This workshop offers the opportunity for students to experience LES MISERABLES from an actor's perspective. To gain a new insight into the text based upon Victor Hugo's novel, students will work with actual props and costumes from past performances whilst discussing the plot and characters. Participants will stage a key song from the show focusing upon movement on a revolving stage and forming human barricades. The workshop concludes with a Q&A. |

Billy Elliot Workshop (90 mins) - The workshop will allow pupils to create their own version of a scene from BILLY ELLIOT - THE MUSICAL. Whilst focusing on this one scene from the show, the workshop will explore some of the shows core themes: history, citizenship and individuality. |
| We Will Rock You Workshop (90 mins) - Explore how a rock musical is written! Your students will write and perform their own 'mini' musical, using current pop hits. This is an excellent workshop for team-building, performance and writing. | |
| Blood Brothers Workshop (90 mins) - Through the exploration of the show's text, the workshop focuses sharply on the themes of citizenship and family. In BLOOD BROTHERS, adult actors play the Johnson twins between the ages of 7 and 30, demanding intense emotional commitment and the ability to portray various ages. The utilisation of 'try' games and group exercises help young people to explore and understand emotional memory, thought tracking, and physical and vocal techniques. | |

Chicago Workshop (90 mins) - This workshop explores the techniques used by theatre to manipulate what the audience sees, hears and feels. Similarly, CHICAGO centres on how the media can manipulate public perception. Students will learn about the true-life murderesses of the Cook County Jail, and how Bob Fosse inspired the present-day incantation of the musical. The session concludes with the students creating their own version of Cell Block Tango. |

The Woman in Black Workshop (90 mins) - This workshop explores storytelling and how a simple story can be transformed into a spine -chilling drama. Through writing, narration, physical images and soundscape, students will stage their own stories during the session as well as examine elements from the text. |

The Woman in Black Advanced Workshop (90 mins) - Ideal for drama students, the Advanced Workshop examines the origins behind this popular stage play, draws upon some of the rehearsal techniques used by the actual performers and discusses the process of adapting a literary work for stage |
Other West End Workshops
Each of these workshops is 90 minutes long unless otherwise stated. The first hour is spent with the teaching artist and the last half hour is a Talkback session with a West End professional, led by the teaching artist.

INTRODUCTION TO THE WESTEND This is an interactive workshop designed to enhance the participants’ night in the West End. Students are taught, in a fun and relaxed environment, skills and techniques used by professional actors inspired by the themes of the show they’re seeing. Students start with a physical and vocal warm up followed by collective focus / listening exercises and theatre games. THEATRE IN CONTEXT Learn about the historical and thematic context for your show and its literary source material. After physical and vocal warm ups, students engage in improvisational exercises designed to illustrate the impact of place and time in theatre. STAGE COMBAT Students are taught, in a fun and relaxed environment, about the relationship between acting and fight choreography. They hone their collaboration skills whilst creating their own combat. Trained professionals take students behind the scenes to discover how fights are choreographed on stage. In this thriller workshop, safety and collaboration are the focus of the session. IN THE SPOTLIGHT (60 minutes) In this intimate one hour session, participants will have the unique opportunity to sit down and talk one to one with a performer from the show they are seeing and find out about their journey to the West End. Your group will have the chance to ask questions and discover everything they ever wanted to know about life in the West End; personal success stories, career highs and lows, backstage gossip and insights into life as a performer. This workshop includes a piano accompanied, private performance from the guest artist. SONG IN PERFORMANCE Come along and work on a song with a musical director and sing with a working West End performer. Learn techniques of vocal dynamics and acting through song. You can bring your own song to explore and develop or you can work on a piece of music prepared by the musical director. Finish the session with a song from a West End professional! THEATRELAND TOUR (60 - 75 minutes) Come and explore the world’s largest and most vibrant theatre district! London’s West End dates as far back as 1576 and has many tales to tell. Find out what the longest running plays and musicals are. Delve into London’s most haunted theatres. Discover which of the world’s most famous actors have appeared in plays in the West End Join our tour guide and uncover London’s magical theatre land! THEATRE SPORTS This team-orientated collection of non-stop theatre games is perfect for active, high energy groups. After physical and vocal warm ups, students stay active through team-building and improvisational games designed to heighten focus, creativity and sensitivity to others. MAKING A SCENE Working from a scripted scene, the focus of this workshop is bringing the text to life in truthful, imaginative and specific ways. Exploring acting methods, vocal techniques and character development, participants engage in acting and improvisational exercises designed to encourage bold and creative acting choices. SHAKESPEARE 2000 A no-nonsense practical introduction to Shakespeare and the text. This workshop offers a unique physical approach to standing the text on its feet and empowers participants to take ownership of the rich, thrilling language. Looking at imagery, tempo, timing, emphasis, body language and practical presentation this workshop will breathe life into scenes from the play students are seeing or studying. STEP BY STEP Students have the opportunity to experience different West End dance styles. This session is taught by a performer from the show the group is seeing and features choreography from that show. Other options for this workshop include a professional dance audition or a specific type of dance (Tap, modern, hip hop etc). There is always time for pictures, questions and autographs. OPEN CALL Develop audition techniques by performing material for a West End casting director and watching a West End professional performing his or her material. Eight students from your class perform either a monologue or a song (with sheet music) for a West End director or casting director for constructive criticism, followed by a talkback session with a West End performer. Students will learn how to talk to the pianist and present their material effectively and professionally, while the entire group gains an understanding of what is necessary to achieve the best audition. |
