Spain, one of Activ4 School Tours most popular destinations, is on a public holiday tomorrow (12th October), to celebrate National Spanish Day.
National Day is also known as Fiesta Nacional de Espana, Hispanic Day or the Dia de La Hispanidad. The celebration remembers the arrival of Christopher Columbus in America in 1906. Columbus left the port of Palod de la Frontera in Spain on 3rd August 1492, and arrived on an island (now part of Caribbean) on 12th October 1492. Dia de la Hispanidad was first celebrated in Madrid in 1935 and was made an official holiday in 1981. This national holiday also coincides with the country’s Armed Forces Day.
Here are 3 of the reasons that we at Activ4 School Tours love a trip to Spain:
1st reason we love Spain
We love the stunning location right on the beach for our adventure trips. There is direct access to one of the most beautiful coves on the Costa Brava. With two full days of water sports students can enjoy stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing in a catamaran. They can finish the day with a fantastic game of volleyball on the beach! In the middle of the week, we offer one day excursions to a local water park or head into the stunning city of Barcelona.
2nd reason we love Spain
Spain is one of our best destinations because of the variety of sports that we can offer on our school sports tours. Every year we run a Sportsfest in Spain either at Easter or May half term. We offer the opportunity to play Netball in a local European destination against UK teams, as well as football, rugby and hockey at Sportsfest. Sports tours can also take place throughout the year to Spain for football, rugby and hockey. Matches will be played against local teams giving your students a wider experience.
All our Sportsfest’s multisport itineraries include: Professional coaching sessions by experienced coaches in your chosen sport; matches, that are matched evenly; off the pitch excursion days either to Barcelona, including a stadium tour of Nou Camp or a Water Park; and a fun filled evening entertainment programme.
Finally, the 3rd reason we love Spain
Spain is a great location for an educational trip! Our educational trips to Spain encourage your students to learn about the culture of this incredible country. Students will find out about the country’s history, the traditions and rituals, the local cuisine and the arts and values. Part of this learning is through a local school interchange where students can make friends with local Spanish students. Using their language skills students will go on a Spanish Gymkhana in teams mixed with their school friends and the local students. One of the most popular parts of this trip is the cooking. Students are sent off to the food shops to buy all the ingredients they require for Paella. When they return to the hotel, students will make their paella with the help of a chef. The best part is at the end when they then get to eat it!
