What struck us during our initial visit to Croatia was the sheer beauty of the Istria region and despite the fact that it is becoming more fashionable it didn’t feel too commercial. The triangle shaped peninsula with its unspoilt coastline and disarmingly charming cities meant that even just a short visit felt unusually rewarding. There are obvious echo’s of its Italian past but that made us feel all the more comfortable and anyway, who doesn’t like Italian food?
Sport plays a significant role in Croatian culture and for a small country they seem intent on punching above their weight. We were extremely impressed with the quality and amount of facilities that are attached to the hotels and resort destinations that now form part of the Activ4 Croatian sports programme. Plus there is a real desire from local clubs to have the opportunity to compete against teams from the UK!
Croatia Sports Tours: Medulin
Medulin was once a small fishing town but today it is one of the centres of Istrian tourism. Because of its rich sports infrastructure it is a favourite destination for sporting activities throughout the year, where sports fans can enjoy football, horse riding, tennis, sailing and much more.

Rijeka is an intriguing city with a long harbour aspect which plays host to a fleet of super yachts which add an extra touch of glamour to the waterfront. Visit the Stadion Kantrida the home of HNK Rijeka owned by an Italian Billionaire and competing in the top division Prva HNL. The stadium is famous for being perched right on the coast, literally. Only a short walk from the stadium is the spectacular and cutting edge Kantrida Aquatic centre which in summer can open its movable roof to make the most of the beautiful weather.
