December Snow Report for the Alps
The 2024-2025 ski season continues its promising start as fresh snowfall blankets the Alps, delivering excellent conditions for early December.
Ski resorts across France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy are thriving, with many areas reporting strong snow depths and increased slope access.
December Snow Report for Austria: Leading the Way
Austria remains the standout performer this season with exceptional snow conditions:
- Hintertux Glacier and Stubai Glacier are open with snow depths exceeding 60 cm at upper elevations
- SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental reports 75 cm of snow on higher slopes, with more than 35% of slopes operational.
- The Zillertal Arena offers excellent conditions with 60 cm snow depth at peak elevations and around half its slopes open

December Snow Report: France and Switzerland
The western Alps are also enjoying solid conditions:
- In France, resorts like Les 2 Alpes and Tignes have strong snow bases, with up to 70 cm of snow reported
- Swiss resorts, such as Zermatt and Verbier, maintain good snow conditions at higher altitudes, although lower areas are still awaiting additional accumulations
December Snow Report in Italy and the Dolomites
The Dolomites in Italy are catching up with steady snow:
- Alta Badia and Cortina d’Ampezzo report fresh snowfall, with up to 50 cm at upper altitudes.
- Skiers are enjoying more lifts opening as temperatures remain favourable in high-elevation areas.
Outlook for December
The snow momentum is expected to continue into December with forecasted snow systems bringing fresh accumulations, particularly to the eastern Alps. Cooler temperatures will help sustain snow cover at all altitudes, ensuring resorts remain in excellent condition. This early-season snow ensures a strong start to winter sports, with resorts across the Alps bustling with activity.
