School trips to lake Garda: A spectacular location and a practical destination for your group.
In simple terms, the Lake Garda region is spectacular. The lake itself, actually called Benaco, is the largest lake in Italy. We have a real affinity with the area because back in 1999 the very first school trip that we ever took, St David’s School, had a fantastic time staying here. So it is no surprise that we have been coming back ever since.
The contrasting landscape of dramatic mountains, clear water and sandy coves make school trips to Lake Garda so successful. The lake is fringed with small towns and the town of Garda itself can be found on the Eastern shore with its cobbled streets filled with shops, the magnificent lake reflecting the nearby Alpine peaks.
Where in Lake Garda
A number of the hotels that we use for school trips to Lake Garda are close to Peschiera but one of the most popular is the Parc Paradiso. This quaint little fortress town steeped in history dating back to the 1400’s lies where Lake Garda’s waters flow southwards to form the River Mincio. Striking medieval walls fortify the river borders of the Old Town. Peschiera’s focal point is the delightful pedestrianised centre with bustling streets full of all kinds of shops, churches and riverside cafés.
The Lake Garda area provides a great base for discovering Milan, Verona and of course Venice. Milan with its fabulous fashion shopping in La Galleria, the magnificent spectacle of Il Duomo as well as its historical castle and the famous San Siro football stadium; Verona and its inspirational amphitheatre and Shakespearean links including Juliet’s Balcony; and Venice with its canals, gondola’s and architecture.
It is also a little known fact that some of Europe’s best theme parks are in Lake Garda. Gardaland theme park we are reliably informed is the 8th most popular theme park in Europe. Alongside it is Caneva World with its aqua park and movie world.
So as you can see not only is the Lake Garda region a spectacular place to take your school group, it’s also a practical one.
