Katschberg Austria: Our insider tip…

Katschberg Austria: Why we love it…

We think that Katschberg is a real insider tip amongst Austrian ski resorts. At 1640 metres high it has an impressive season which lasts through the Easter holidays and even this isn’t left to chance with its state of the art snow making, which covers 100 per cent of the slopes.

Katschberg AustriaThere are 66 kilometres of extremely well groomed slopes which are served by a sophisticated network of 16 lifts across two peaks. What our groups all commented on was the sheer absence of lift queues… so if you are used to skiing in France you’ve got to love that!

We couldn’t talk about the skiing in Katschberg Austria without mentioning the newly-created A1 ‘Autobahn’. This has got to be one of Austria’s most satisfying runs going from Aineck peak to Lungau, a total of 6km! Go on, try that in one go and see how the legs are…

The skiing in general is great for mixed ability groups. There are a number of easy blues near the village which are perfect for beginners whilst the Tschaneck side of the resort is predominantly red and a haven for intermediates with all runs funnelling back into the village. The slopes feel broad and flattering which can be a real boost to the ego! The black run on this side is the Tschaneckpiste to the right of the 6-person Tschaneckbahn chairlift however there is also an easier run the Konigsweise.

Katschberg AustriaThe atmosphere in and around the resort is one which encourages youngsters to enjoy winter sports and Some short runs and areas near the village are exclusively for children with no through skiers to distract them.
