We often get asked why you would choose to go to North America versus Europe, and while we believe there are many benefits to both, we do have a soft spot for North American ski and snowboard holidays!

Read on to hear some of our thoughts on skiing in the different regions!

1

Convenience

We hear time and time again that surely Europe must be a lot more convenient, however this is not always necessarily true. Yes, Europe is a lot closer in miles but when you factor in coach transfers versus the proximity of the North American ski resorts to the airports – some tour leaders consider it a lot easier to get out to some of our great North American resorts!

Language

Another key benefit to flying out to the States or Canada is the lack of a language barrier! While we always ensure that all of our tours include an English-speaking ski instructor in Europe, sometimes you just can’t beat a native speaker!

We always get fantastic comments for our tour leaders about the instruction in North America which always includes plenty of individual feedback for the students which is, of course, essential for improving their practice and technique!

Range of skiing terrain

While we can offer fantastic beginner terrain in our European destinations, including favourites Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria and the ever popular Aprica and Sesstiere in Italy to name a few, we have always had fantastic results from their North American counterparts as well.

As mentioned above, sometimes the language means that instruction is clearer which can lead to improved technique faster for your novice skiers!

The other key benefit for North American skiing is a big pull for the more adventurous skiers among you! Resorts in the US or Canada often give you the option to sample off-piste and tree-skiing in a slightly safer environment as, unlike your typical European resorts, everything within the ski area boundaries is protected against avalanches and will be monitored by ski patrollers. This gives you the chance to weave through a few trees in confidence, fully covered by insurance!

Excursions

While for the more seasoned skier (and by that we mean eighteen plus!) Europe offers a host of advantages to indulge in more traditional “apres-ski” evening entertainment, America and Canada can truly hold its own for entertainment to suit children and adults alike! With excursions such as tubing, ice skating, bowling, movie nights, live hockey or baseball matches and… most importantly… tax free Outlet shopping, even the liveliest group will sleep like babies every night after their jam-packed itinerary!

All in all, it’s a close call between North America and Europe and we can’t pick between our tours – however if you love the sound of spacious resorts, incredible customer service and some cheeky off-piste skiing for the teachers then you might want to consider North America for your next ski trip!

Some of our favourites include:

Waterville Valley, USA

Sugarloaf, Maine, USA

Sunday River, USA

Mont Saint Anne, Canada

Jasper and the Rockies, Canada
