Pragelato offers the best of both worlds for a school ski trip looking for extensive skiing but without the high cost of some of the large interconnected French resorts. Only a short 15 min coach journey from Sestriere your group can enjoy over 400km of skiing provided by the famous ‘Milky Way’ but remain in the relative tranquillity of a picturesque village.
School Ski trip: Tarvisio – Italy
Charming is the word most often associated with Tarvisio and if you prefer doorstep skiing then it is here that you will find unparalleled value for money. There might not be as much sheer acreage as the Milky Way or some of the other combined systems but Tarvisio’s position in the easternmost region of Italy, which also borders with Slovenia and Austria, makes this well kept little secret a fantastic option for schools. In fact my favourite slope is here, the famous Di Pramero World Cup slope… don’t miss it!
School Ski trip: Bad Kleinkirchheim – Austria
For me, BKK is a good all-rounder. It’s full of good skiing with some magnificent steep cruising which is ideal for intermediates who like to push themselves. One of the other reasons I favour this region is the opportunity to stay at Camp Royal X, I think that the set up there with separate accommodation, its lovely pool with a view down the lake and the indoor sports facilities is just perfect for school groups.
School Ski trip: Waterville Valley – USA
Skiing in the USA
has always been a popular option but the taxation levied on long haul flights has meant that the East Coast is the most realistic option for many school budgets. Waterville Valley in New Hampshire is a beautiful village and not like many US resorts which are strung along a highway. What makes the skiing so successful here is the way that the trails have been cut down the mountain which means that all abilities get to make the most of the whole mountain.
