Bletchley Park – Codebreaking and Computer Origins
Visit the birthplace of modern computing and encryption at Bletchley Park, where students will discover the story of Alan Turing and the team that cracked the Enigma code. The visit includes exhibitions on WWII computing, Turing’s Bombe machine, and interactive workshops on cybersecurity or cryptography, giving students a strong historical foundation in the evolution of computing.
Science Museum – The Information Age
At the Science Museum, students will explore revolutionary developments that have shaped our digital world. Key exhibits in the Information Age Gallery and Engineer Your Future zone offer interactive displays on telecommunications, code, networks, and tech careers — directly supporting curriculum topics and career exploration.
Silicon Roundabout & Tech Startups
Take a guided walking tour of Old Street and Shoreditch — London’s “Silicon Roundabout” — home to hundreds of tech startups, accelerators, and innovation labs. Students will gain insights into how cloud computing, app development, and digital platforms power the UK’s thriving tech ecosystem. Optional visits may include spaces such as Google for Startups Campus, TechHub, or Runway East.
Big Tech HQ or Partner Visit (Optional)
Where available, students can visit a major technology company such as Google, Amazon, or BT. These visits may include tech talks, Q&A sessions, and tours to introduce students to careers in software engineering, cybersecurity, AI, UX design, and more — inspiring the next generation of computing professionals.
Depart school early and travel to Bletchley Park. On arrival, students will explore the world of wartime codebreaking through original Enigma machines, the Bombe, and Alan Turing’s workspaces.
Optional hands-on workshops in cybersecurity, cryptography, or computing history bring theory to life. In the evening, check into the Royal National Hotel and enjoy dinner at the onsite restaurant or a local eatery.
After breakfast, begin with a visit to the Science Museum’s Information Age and Engineer Your Future exhibits, focusing on how computing has shaped society.
In the afternoon, travel to Old Street and take a guided walking tour of “Silicon Roundabout”, London’s tech startup hub. Students will see co-working spaces and tech incubators, and learn how the UK tech sector fosters innovation. Optional: enjoy a scenic Thames River Cruise in the evening.
Begin the final day with an optional visit to a major tech company HQ or partner venue, such as Google, BT, or Amazon (subject to availability).
Participate in a talk or Q&A with industry professionals on tech careers, cloud computing, and innovation. Later, enjoy free time in Covent Garden or the Natural History Museum before departing London and returning to school.
