Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near modern Naples, Italy and provides outstanding information on the art, customs, trades and everyday life of the past. Our tour experts can tailor your tour to include official guides of one of the world’s most engrossing archaeological experiences.
Students can also visit Herculaneum; the sister-site of Pompeii. Herculaneum was buried in molten lava from Mount Vesuvius back in AD 79, instead of the ash that covered Pompeii. This protected site for centuries, meaning priceless details, ranging from buildings to artworks, can still be seen today.
Pompeii Italy School Trips, highlights include:
Geography students can experience the sights of Mount Vesuvius, the only active Volcano in mainland Europe. Although the last eruption was in 1944, it still represents a great danger to the cities that surround it, especially the busy metropolis of Naples.
Our team can arrange for a visit to the Amalfi Coast, beginning in Amalfi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour can include the Amalfi Cathedral to the Chirstro del Paradiso and town of Postiano.
During your visit to Naples, students can explore Città della Scienza, Italy’s first interactive science museum. This innovative centre combines hands-on exhibits, themed galleries and working laboratories to create a truly engaging learning experience. Highlights include Corporea, the Human Body Museum, where students discover anatomy in a dynamic way, and the 3D Planetarium, which brings the wonders of space vividly to life.
Overall this unforgettable trip is a variety of cross-curriculum topics for your students.
Depart from your UK airport bound for Italy. On arrival at your destination airport you will be greeted by an Activ4 School Tours Representative and escorted to the local coach for your transfer. After check-in, head to the outside restaurant for dinner. After dinner you have a free evening to perhaps take a stroll around the town.
This morning you’ll head into Pompeii, one of the world’s most engrossing archaeological experiences. An official guide will show you the sights to ensure you make the most of your visit; peering into humble shops and homes and viewing the villas of the city’s wealthiest families. In the afternoon you’ll be heading to Vesuvius, the only active volcano in mainland Europe.
Today you will see the Amalfi Coast. It is hard to believe that this pretty little town was once a maritime superpower with a population of more than 70,000. You will travel by coach to Positano, taking in stunning views of the coast. Positano is known as the vertical town with its white, pink and yellow Mediterranean houses built into the landscape.
This morning you will visit Herculaneum; the sister-site of Pompeii. This protected the site for centuries, meaning priceless details, ranging from buildings to artworks, can still be seen today. Following a morning at Herculaneum, you will travel to Naples to visit Citta della Scienza’s Science Centre. The Science Centre includes the Corporea (Human Body Museum) and a 3D Planetarium.
Unfortunately today you return home. There may be just enough to enjoy a gelato, or perhaps a slice of pizza. Your coach will then take you to the airport. The tour officially ends when you get back to the UK, but with a trip this great we are sure that it will live long in the memory.

Step back into Roman life with a guided tour of Pompeii, the city frozen in time by the eruption of AD 79. Students walk the ancient streets, houses and amphitheatre, gaining first-hand insight into social structure, daily routines and the impact of natural disasters on human settlement.

Climb Europe’s most famous volcano and peer into the crater that reshaped history. Along the way, students study volcanic processes, hazards and monitoring, making it a memorable case study for both geography and science.

Often overshadowed by nearby Pompeii, Herculaneum offers an equally fascinating yet more intimate glimpse into Roman life. Buried by the same eruption of Vesuvius in AD 79, the town is remarkably well preserved, with houses, mosaics, wooden structures and even food remains still visible. A guided visit helps students compare daily life in this smaller coastal settlement with that of Pompeii, making it an invaluable case study for history and classical civilisation.

Discover the colourful cliffside village of Positano on the Amalfi Coast. Its dramatic scenery, winding streets and lively waterfront provide a striking contrast to the archaeological sites, offering students a taste of Mediterranean culture, tourism and coastal geography.
